We were amongst the first commercial companies to deploy software implementations for profit that were written in the Ruby programming language. When Rich Kilmer founded InfoEther as a for-profit company to specifically take advantage of Ruby's power, he also co-founded (along with Chad Fowler and David Alan Black) a non-profit company, RubyCentral, to evangelize Ruby and promote it through conferences and the Ruby open-source project site, RubyForge.
